In the years ahead, our foundation will work to not only re-imagine Doddsville, but to rebuild it — not as the bustling trade hub it once was, but as a rejuvenating retreat shaped by the quiet rhythm of Delta life. Here, travelers may pause along the Highway 442 Sharecropper Corridor to reflect on history, walk its simple streets, and experience the peace found only in small crossroads communities.

The Highway 442 Sharecropper Corridor Legacy Foundation is dedicated to safeguarding the history and legacy of the sharecroppers and tenant farmers who labored along the Highway 442 Corridor in Sunflower County, Mississippi, from 1865 to 1965.
Our foundation is committed to the conservation and restoration of historic churches, landmarks, graveyards, and other cultural sites that bear witness to this enduring legacy. At the center of our efforts stands Doddsville, a delta town once reliant on the work of sharecroppers and tenant farmers, now honored as the heart of the corridor.
Through educational programs, storytelling, and community-driven empowerment, we strive to restore dignity to these individuals’ memories. We ensure their sacrifices are remembered and celebrated for generations to come.
Our work builds a bridge between past and present, empowering local communities and inspiring future generations with the resilience, faith, and labor demonstrated by those who came before us.
Through storytelling, research, and education, we share the lived experiences of sharecroppers, highlighting how their faith and determination shaped culture, community, and economy. We also empower local voices to carry forward this legacy, ensuring younger generations understand the strength and resilience that came before them.
The legacy of Sunflower County's sharecroppers is a story of survival, perseverance, and contribution under the weight of Systems like Jim Crow. By preserving this history, we connect past and present, inspiring future generations to value the dignity of labor and the resilience of community.
